Betway name Anthony Werkman as new CEO
Betway have named Anthony Werkman as the new CEO of the company after promoting him from the position as director of marketing and operations.

Werkman will take over the role from the former chief executive Richard Akitt, who will now hold the position of chairman. Akitt had spent the last five years as chairman of Betway, overseeing a strong period of growth for the company.
Werkman has a lot of experience in the gaming industry. Born in South Africa, he entered the industry in 2000 and began working with Betway in 2013, where he has led up the group’s marketing operations, as well as being a key figure in the company’s UK and European expansion.
Werkman has also been at the forefront of Betway’s forage into esports, where it is now one of the biggest promoters among operators.
Commenting on his promotion, Werkman said:
I am honoured to be taking on the Group CEO role of Betway at a hugely exciting time for the company. Richard and I have worked closely together over the last few years and I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role as Chairman. We have experienced an incredible period of growth over the past few years and are determined to make sure that trajectory continues.
Reflecting on his time as chairman, Akitt commented:
It’s been a privilege to be CEO of Betway for the last five years, but the time is right for me to hand over the reins to Anthony. I look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship and being closely involved in the strategic direction of the business going forward.
A strong period of growth for Betway
Betway have gone from strength to strength in recent years. Among their successful strategies has been a major investment in its esports offering. Werkman has been a key figure in this aspect of the business, overseeing sponsorship deals and esports betting markets.
Sponsorship deals and betting partnerships have been another focus. The operator is best known as the shirt sponsor of Premier League West Ham United, but it has a host of other deals in place too.
The firm became the official betting partner of Bundesliga team SV Werder Bremen in 2017, while also signing a number of deals with teams in the 2 Bundesliga, including FC St. Pauli, Union Berlin, Eintracht Braunschweig, Karlsruher SC, and Dynamo Dresden. Betway has also sponsored multiple darts and tennis players and tournaments, as well as horse races across the UK.
